2. Information We Collect

When you create an account, we collect your name and email address. When you use the app, we collect usage data such as which proverbs you view and which countries you explore. We do not collect sensitive personal data such as payment card details — all payments are processed securely by third-party providers.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to: provide and improve the Words of Culture service; personalise your experience (e.g. tracking countries visited on the Travel Map); send you notifications you have opted into (such as daily proverbs); process subscriptions; and respond to your enquiries. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

4. Legal Basis for Processing (UK GDPR)

We process your data on the following bases: contract performance (to provide the service you signed up for); legitimate interests (to improve our app and prevent fraud); and consent (for marketing communications, which you may withdraw at any time).

5. Firebase Authentication

Sign-in and authentication is handled by Google Firebase. Your login credentials are stored securely by Google Firebase and are governed by Google's privacy policy. We do not store your password.

6. Advertising

The free version of Words of Culture displays advertisements. We use Google AdSense to serve ads. Google may use cookies and device identifiers to show you relevant adverts. You can opt out of personalised advertising in your device settings. Subscribing to Words of Culture removes all advertising.

7. Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. We use analytics cookies to understand how users interact with the app. You may disable non-essential cookies in your browser settings.

8. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law.

9. Your Rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to: access the data we hold about you; correct inaccurate data; request deletion of your data; object to processing; and data portability. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at legal@wordsofculture.com.

10. Children

Words of Culture is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice in the app.
